It’s been a weekend of baking here at 2Bites – banana chocolate chip muffins for the win.
As you know, we love any opportunity to get kids in the kitchen to learn about food.
One thing you can focus on when baking or cooking together is how food changes as it is peeled, chopped, prepared, and cooked. Take bananas for example, their smell, flavour, colour, and texture change hugely as they ripen – even as adults some of us may prefer banana’s a bit on the green side, or a bit on the brown side. The experience of eating a banana whole from the skin, sliced into rounds, mashed, frozen, or made into pancakes or muffins is completely different.
When trying new food, if your picky eater doesn’t like something, try and describe the food together, brainstorm how you can make it different for next time – could you try it raw, cooked, pickled, frozen, mashed, mixed with something else? There are so many ways you can explore together.
